The filming of scenes for the English musical production Mamma Mia!, which took place at the hamlet of Damouhari in Mouresi area on Eastern Pelion coast in Greece, was a great success. The natural hamlet lived an era of vivid artistic activity with actress Meryl Streep in the leading role, accompanied by a plethora of artists, cast and crew.
During the filming of the scenes, the hamlet of Damouhari was crowded with hundreds of local women and children that aided the development of the local live footage for the film. The filming started with a scene of small fishing boats escorting the boat that brings the daughter of the leading actress to the hamlet of Damouhari. Thoughout the filming, the music of ABBA on which the musical Mamma Mia! is based upon, continuously filled the air of the set, with ABBA's Benny Anderson giving a live touch on the spot with his piano.
According to the screenplay, the daughter of the leading actress pays her mother (Meril Streep) a visit at her house on a Greek island (Damouhari) were she came on a small boat in quest of her physical father. This mother - daughter reunion initiates a local feast, and all women abandon whatever they were doing to live a moment of liberation, dancing and singing the all-times-classic ABBA dancing hit "Dancing Queen" at the harbor and along the alleys of the island.
The filming of the scenes in Damouhari was concluded on September 29th.
