About pelion-paths.gr your outdoors Pelion guide
Objectives
Pelion-paths.gr was initially created due to the need of recording and promoting the mountain trails and hiking routes of Mouresi Municipality in eastern Pelion Mountain Greece. These routes used to play an important role to the area's growth during the late century and are nowadays considered as significant landmarks. In parallel to the routes recording, there has been made an effort to record and promote the area's geography, sights and landmarks, cultural and environmental profile to what in Greece is known as one of the most verdant and fertile areas: Pelion Mountain.
The main objective of this project was to record in detail and display in a clear and sufficient manner the hiking routes that exist throughout the Mouresi Municipal area (including the ones that end-up there, coming from other parts of the Pelion mountain) into a single, unified internet portal, resulting the outcome to become the basis of formatting a mainframe to alternative tourism activities of such kind in Pelion area.
In more detail, the objectives of this project are:
- a. To create a geo-database of the area and enrich it with data about hiking route trackpoints, landmark and sightseeing points, connect geo-data with texts and images about landmarks, culture and history, create a separate section about environmental data, record Pelion Mountain's flora and fauna species and
- b. To use all above recorded data for the development of an internet portal that would promote alternative tourism activities to the potential domestic or foreign visitors/tourists of the Pelion area, as well as to communicate an environment-oriented small-scale business planning to local professional as a more sufficient way to evolve their developing agricultural-tourism activities with respect to the area's culture, history and tradition.
